"Online Ticketing Best Practices"

Top Ten List

#1 Easy set-up and changes. Make sure you don't need a web developer hired to make changes to your ticketing pages. That said, it might not hurt you to have a graphic designer make things look pretty, but YOU must be able to make changes.

#2 Automatic pricing changes or discounts by date. We believe in Penalty Pricing - If a guest buys in advance she saves, if she comes to the gate, she pays more. Your ticketing system MUST be able to be set-up in advance, so that as your event approaches, the pricing changes automatically.

#3 Up-sells. You ticketing system MUST be able to process up-sells, such as food packages, sunflower blooms, wine or drink combos, even T-shirts. Simply by having up-sells, you sell more to a percentage of guests.

#4 Event-specific ticketing pages. Your ticketing system MUST be able to offer a different look and feel for each event. Some systems lock you into one look for your business, which means you'd have to manually separate ticket sales and manual change the look and feel by season. Ticketspice.com allows us to have a completely different look, ticketing type, upsells, and tracking system for each event. Our wine events look wildly different form Fall Harvest. Our Facebook Ads track each event separately.

#5 Direct connection to Facebook Ads tracking. With one simple click, Facebook ties directly, by page, into our ticketing. We track our ads from click through completed sale with a single connection.

#6 Ticket purchase reporting. Your system MUST tell you where purchasers are coming from, which site referred them to your ticketing page, how much each transaction is worth, and when purchases were made, so you can correlate with your other marketing efforts. Simply knowing how far in advance people make purchasing decisions can help plan your marketing budget!

#7 Guest Information Exporting. Your ticket purchaser data must be exportable. You need to get it out and into your email list and into your direct mailing list. Run away from any system that holds guest data in a 'proprietary database' you can only use through their software.

#8 Additional Fields Required. Liability protection is always a concern. Your ticketing system should allow you to include required fields, such as agreeing to terms, age verification, such as over 21 with I.D. required, no refunds, no pet policies or similar items.

#9 Coupon or Promo Code tracking. See where your discount code redemption is successful by tracking advertising codes.

#10 Automatic email confirmations. After the sale, reminders to visit, links to share on social media, sponsor links and on-site coupons keep guests spending.

BONUS: Easy on-site scanning. Easy on-site scanning allows any iPads to become scanning devices and quickly check guests in for the event to keep lines moving.

I hope this is helpful as you plan to sell tickets in advance, online for your events this season. If you have any questions or would like more information on marketing events, give me a call and we'll connect you with the best resources.
